Has anyone tried using a 23cm (1250 – 1300 MHz) loop yagi for signal reception?

No. But I have got one of those W5VJB PCB Log Periodic antennas which goes 850-6500MHz. I’ll give it a go later tonight when I’m done with dinner.

You need to build a right hand circularly polarized antenna crossed yagi.

“need” is such a strong word.

Whilst I agree that the signal is RHCP in nature a linear antenna with enough gain will also produce results. Not as good but it’ll work in a pinch.
