Message icon in outernet

I see the message icon but cannot find any info on how to use it. Any info will be appreciated.

If there is a lot of APRS messages it can take quite a few seconds for the messages to be visible. You can delete some of the message files under Amateur Radio/APRS/APRSAT.

is there a way to send APRS messages other than your location?

APRS, while widely used for location based information, is actually a digital messaging solution and can send all sorts of messages:

It really happened the other way around, actually. First there was AX.25 amateur packet radio, then Bob Bruninga came along and added special messages that carry location information.

In the mid 1980’s I build my own 1200 Baud TAPR AX.25 packet modem.

Here’s the basic packet protocol that APRS is based on.
