I just noticed that you said “lantern” - that device is (I believe) not yet released but has a built-in antenna. I believe it is supposed to have a jack for an external dish as well, in which case the thread I mentioned would apply.

Generally yes. It really depends on your location and satellite you intend to use. LNB type must match that of the signal (e.g., Ku, C, etc), and the dish must be of sufficient size.

For dish size, I recommend poking around SatBeams. You can select the satellite you intend to use, and then click on your location on the map to get information about the required size. We always recommend adding 10cm to the size shown on SatBeams.
